1856 O Seated Liberty Silver Half Dollar

This 1856 O Seated Liberty half dollar is an American silver coin. This silver used to make this coin was not commonly used after the 19th century, and is 90% pure silver. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Seated Liberty image is depicted holding a shield, and pole with a liberty cap at the top.
The image on the other side of the coin is of an eagle with a shield very similar to that of the Seated Liberty. This design represents American freedom during the time period, a characteristic of the country that few other countries could share. The coins were no longer minted after 1891, and they are a true symbol of American patriotism during the Civil War era.
